Jawline filler at House of Glam HQ in Southsea is £160, and the honest answer to the question most people actually want to ask is: yes, there is real risk in filler, it is small, and the jaw is not the area where it is highest.
I am Natasha, the sole practitioner at House of Glam HQ, and I carry out every treatment myself. I have been injecting for more than seven years. This post is mostly about risk, because that is what people ask me in the room and what almost nobody writes down properly.
Is jawline filler risky?
There is one complication that matters and it is worth naming rather than hiding: vascular occlusion. That is filler going into a blood vessel, or pressing hard enough on one to close it, which cuts off the blood supply to the skin that vessel feeds. Left untreated it can cause the skin to break down. It is rare, and it is the reason injectors talk about anatomy as much as they do.
The jaw is not a blind spot for this. The facial artery crosses the lower border of the jaw just in front of the chewing muscle, which is in the working area for jawline filler. So it is not a no-risk area and I would not tell you it was. What it is, is an area where the vessel runs in a place that can be found and avoided, at a depth that can be worked around.
What reduces the risk is not the product. It is slow injecting at low pressure, small amounts at a time, knowing where the vessel sits before the needle moves, and using a blunt-tipped cannula through one entry point rather than repeated needle passes where that suits the plan. And because the filler is hyaluronic acid, it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if anything is wrong.
The things to tell me about straight away, on the day or in the days after: skin that goes white or mottled and stays that way, pain that is getting worse rather than settling, or any change in your vision. Ordinary swelling and a bruise are not those things. If in doubt, message me. I would far rather look at a photo of a normal bruise than hear about something three days late.
What is the riskiest place for fillers?
Not the jaw. The two areas with the worst reputation are the glabella, the space between the eyebrows, and the nose, because of the vessels that run there and the connections they have towards the eye. The under-eye is also an area to take seriously.
I do treat the nose, and I treat it knowing that. It is priced separately and it is the one area where I am slowest and use the least product. For the jaw, chin and cheeks, the risk is lower and the honest framing is that this is a treatment with a small serious risk rather than a treatment with none.
What filler gives you a jawline?
A firmer, more cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel. The jaw needs something that holds its shape against bone and does not spread, which is a different product from the soft gel that goes in a lip.
Everything I use is CE-marked hyaluronic acid, blended with lidocaine for comfort, and fully reversible. I use Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero. I do not use calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid or anything permanent, and I never will. If a clinic is offering you a jawline built from a permanent filler, that is a decision you cannot undo later.

A jaw is rarely treated completely on its own, because the chin and the jaw border are one line and treating half of it tends to show. When a plan runs to more than one area, or to more product than a single area needs, it is priced by the millilitre.

Is 0.5ml chin filler enough?
For a lot of chins, yes. A chin that needs a little more projection to balance a profile often takes 0.5ml and nothing more, which is why it is priced at £130 on its own. You will see the change in a side-profile photograph before you see it in the mirror, because a chin does most of its work from the side.
Where 0.5ml is not enough is when the chin is short as well as set back, or when the chin and the jaw border are being treated as one line. Then it is 1 to 2ml in total across the lower face, and the pricing moves to the volume list above. I have written separately about chin filler, what it costs and what it will not do.
Can jawline fillers lift jowls?
Not really, and this is the question I most often have to disappoint someone on.
Filler does not lift. What it does at the jaw is rebuild the border, so the soft tissue that has slipped forward has something to sit against and the shadow in front of it becomes shallower. That can make a jowl look considerably less obvious. It is not the same as picking it up.
If the jowl is soft tissue that has genuinely descended, and the skin has lost its elasticity, adding filler underneath makes the lower face heavier rather than tighter, and heavier is the direction nobody wants. I have written about that in more detail in my guide to jowl filler and what it lifts. The short version: filler at the jaw is for definition, and it helps jowls indirectly or not at all.
How long should jaw fillers last?
Twelve to eighteen months at the jaw and cheek, depending on the product. That is longer than lips, which run six to twelve, because the lower face moves far less than a mouth does and the gel is broken down more slowly where there is less movement.
Longer is not automatically better. A decision made at the jaw is one you live with for over a year, which is exactly why I would rather place too little and see you again than place too much.
What jawline filler will not do
It will not slim a wide jaw. If the width is muscle, filler adds to it rather than reducing it, and the treatment for a strong chewing muscle is a different one entirely.
It will not change your bone. It sits on top of the jaw and follows the shape underneath, so it can sharpen a border that already exists and it cannot build one that does not. It will not tighten loose skin, and it does nothing for texture or pigment.
What happens at a jawline filler appointment in Southsea
Thirty to sixty minutes. It starts sitting up, in normal light, working out whether the complaint is the jaw border, the chin, the soft tissue in front of it, or the skin. I mark the line along the jaw with a white pencil so you can see the plan before anything goes in.
Numbing cream goes on first and sits for about twenty minutes, and the filler carries lidocaine as well. I work in small amounts and sit you up between them, because a jaw assessed lying flat is not the jaw anyone else sees.

Swelling, bruising and when it settles
Two to three days of swelling is normal, and the jaw bruises more readily than the cheek because of where the vessels sit. A bruise along the jaw can take a week to fade and covers easily after twenty-four hours.
The settled shape is judged at around two weeks. That is when it is worth taking a photograph and deciding whether anything else is needed. It is also the reason I will not add more on the day, however tempting that is while you are still numb. Filler does not include a review appointment the way anti-wrinkle injections do, but you can always message me.

Who I would say no to
Anyone whose real problem is skin laxity rather than a lost border. Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. Anyone with an active skin infection, a cold sore or inflamed acne over the area, until it has settled.
And anyone who arrives with a photograph of a jaw built on completely different bone and wants that jaw. I will tell you what is achievable on yours, and if the gap is too wide I would rather not take the booking than take your money for a result I cannot give you.
If you change your mind
Hyaluronic acid filler is reversible. It is dissolved with hyaluronidase, and facial filler dissolving starts at £180 for the chin, cheeks, jawline or nose. It needs a patch test and consultation at least a week beforehand, which is £15 and is deducted.
Hardly anyone uses it. It matters anyway, because knowing a thing can be undone is what makes it reasonable to try.
