A brow that sits low makes you look tired when you are not, and it is one of the first things people notice in photographs of themselves. The surgical answer is a brow lift under general anaesthetic. The answer most people are actually searching for is the injectable one: a few small doses placed so the muscles that pull the brow down stop winning, and the brow sits a little higher on its own.
I do that treatment here in Southsea and it is £150. That is less than one standard anti-wrinkle area at £170, which surprises most people, so the arithmetic is set out below along with what the treatment will not do. I would rather you knew that part before you booked than after.
What a non-surgical brow lift actually is
Your brow position is a tug of war. One set of muscles lifts the brow and another set pulls it down: the ones between the brows that make you frown, and a ring of muscle around the eye socket whose outer fibres drag the tail of the brow downwards. A non-surgical brow lift places small, precise doses of a muscle-relaxing injectable into the ones that pull down, usually at the tail of the brow and sometimes between the brows. The lifting muscles carry on working, so the brow drifts up slightly because nothing is holding it back.
Most people search for this as a Botox brow lift. Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine, so I cannot advertise it by brand name, and you will see it written here as anti-wrinkle injections. It is the same class of treatment, and I have written separately on whether the two names mean the same thing.
It is not a thread lift and it is not filler. Some clinics do brow work with dermal filler in the temple or above the brow. Mine is the injectable muscle-relaxing version, and that is what the £150 buys.
How much does a non-surgical eyebrow lift cost in the UK?
I cannot speak for anyone else’s price list. I can tell you mine, in full. Every price is published, where most Portsmouth clinics quote only after a consultation.
| Anti-wrinkle treatment | Price |
|---|---|
| Brow lift, the tail of both brows | £150 |
| Lip flip | £150 |
| Bunny lines, across the bridge of the nose | £150 |
| Chin dimpling | £150 |
| 1 standard area, forehead, frown lines or crow’s feet | £170 |
| Masseter, for clenching or a wide lower face | £180 |
| 2 standard areas | £210 |
| 3 standard areas, the whole upper face | £250 |
The three standard areas are forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. Crow’s feet count as one area even though both sides are treated. The brow lift is not one of the three, which is the single thing people get wrong when they work out what to book.
Why a brow lift costs less than one standard area
Because it uses less. A brow lift is a small number of units placed at the tail of each brow. A forehead area covers a much larger sheet of muscle and takes more. The price follows the work rather than the name of the treatment, which is why £150 sits below the £170 standard area rather than above it.
It also means a brow lift is a sensible first anti-wrinkle treatment if you are nervous. It is small, it is the lowest price on my injectable list alongside the lip flip, and if you hate it, it wears off.
Where the injections go, and why the brow rises
I look at your brow while it moves, not while it sits still. I will ask you to raise your brows, frown, and squeeze your eyes shut, because that is the only way to see which muscle is doing what on your face. Brows are rarely level, and most people have one that sits lower than the other without ever having noticed.
The placements are shallow and there are only a few of them. At the tail of each brow, a small dose into the outer fibres of the muscle ringing the eye. Between the brows, where indicated, into the frown muscles, which also pull the inner brow down. The needle is very fine, and most people describe a brief pinch. Most do not need numbing cream.
Can a brow lift be done without surgery?
Yes, with the limits that follow. An injectable brow lift changes brow position by relaxing what pulls it down. Surgery changes brow position by moving tissue and removing skin. They are not the same operation with different price tags, and it is worth being clear about which one you are buying.
What the injectable version does well: a brow that has dropped slightly at the outer end, a brow that is heavy because you frown hard all day, and brows that are noticeably uneven. What it does not do is further down this page, and it is the part worth reading.
Can a brow lift fix hooded eyes?
Sometimes, and often not, and the difference is whether your hooding is brow or skin.
If the lid looks covered because the brow has dropped and is pressing the soft tissue down onto the lid, lifting the brow genuinely helps, because you are moving the thing that is doing the pressing. If the lid looks covered because there is loose skin on the eyelid itself, relaxing a muscle does nothing to it. The skin is still there. The brow goes up a little and the hood stays where it is.
I can usually tell which you have by lifting your brow gently with a fingertip while you look in the mirror. If the hood lifts with it, you are a candidate. If it does not move, I will tell you so at the consultation rather than take £150 for a result you are not going to get.
How can I lift my hooded eyelids without surgery?
Honestly: if the hooding is skin rather than brow position, you cannot, and nothing I offer will change it. That is an upper eyelid surgery question and it belongs with a surgeon, not with me.
What I can do for the area around it is relax the muscles pulling the brow down, soften crow’s feet at the outer eye so the whole area reads as more open, and treat frown lines so the inner brow is not being dragged in and down. Together that is a lighter, more awake upper face. It is not an eyelid lift and I will not describe it as one.
You might not need a brow lift at all
This is the part most pages leave out. The frown muscles between your brows pull the inner brow down as well as making the vertical lines. If you treat frown lines as a standard area, the brow often lifts a little as a side effect, because you have relaxed one of the muscles holding it down.
So if you were already planning to treat your frown lines, the honest conversation is whether you need a separate brow lift on top, or whether you should treat the frown lines first, come back at your 14-day review, and see what your brow has done on its own. Plenty of people find it has done enough. That is a conversation I would rather have than sell you both on day one.
Booking a brow lift with other areas
There is no package price that bundles a brow lift with the standard areas, so it is simple addition. Here is what each combination comes to.
| What you book together | Total |
|---|---|
| Brow lift on its own | £150 |
| Brow lift and 1 standard area | £320 |
| Brow lift and 2 standard areas | £360 |
| Brow lift and 3 standard areas | £400 |
Klarna spreads any treatment over three monthly payments if you would rather not pay it in one go.
The £25 prescriber consultation comes first
Anti-wrinkle injectables are prescription-only medicines, so a prescriber has to assess you before a first treatment. That is £25, it is a legal requirement rather than a clinic policy, and I arrange it for you. The important detail: it is paid once per prescription period, not once per treatment and not once per area. If you have a brow lift and come back for your frown lines inside the same period, you are not paying it twice.
If you have never had anti-wrinkle injections with me, message me on WhatsApp or ring before you book so I can set the consultation up. If you already have a current prescription with me, book straight onto Fresha.
| What it is | Cost |
|---|---|
| Prescriber consultation, before a first treatment, once per prescription period | £25 |
| Standalone consultation on Fresha, deducted from the treatment if you go ahead | £15 |
| 14-day review after your treatment | Included |
What happens on the day
The appointment runs about fifteen to twenty minutes. We go through your medical history and what you want, I watch your brows move, I clean the skin, and I place the injections. You will have a few tiny marks afterwards, and they fade within the hour.
Afterwards: stay upright for four hours, do not rub the area, and leave exercise and alcohol until tomorrow. I have written the full list in my piece on what to expect after anti-wrinkle injections.
When you will see it, and how long it lasts
Nothing happens on the way home. The first change usually shows at three to five days, and it settles by fourteen, which is why the 14-day review is included and why I ask you to come back for it. If one brow has lifted more than the other, or you want a touch more, that is the appointment to sort it at.
It typically lasts three to six months, and that varies with how strong those muscles are and how much you use them. A brow lift is a small dose in a mobile part of the face, so for some people it is at the shorter end of that range.
What are the downsides of a brow lift?
They are worth knowing and they are not hidden anywhere else on this site.
Placement matters more here than almost anywhere else on the face. Put a dose in the wrong place near the brow and you can drop the brow instead of lifting it, or create an over-arched outer brow. That is a technique problem, not a product problem, and it is why I do not rush this one and why I look at your face in movement first. If something does look uneven at the review, it is adjustable.
Beyond that: small bruises at the injection points are possible, particularly near the tail of the brow where the skin is thin. It wears off, so it is a repeat commitment if you want to keep it. And if you are worried about looking stiff, I have written about that in whether you will look frozen — the short version is that a brow lift is a small dose and you keep your expression.
It is for adults only, not during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and not with an active skin infection at the site. The prescriber assesses all of that at the £25 consultation, so bring your medical history.
What is the best brow lift without surgery?
The one matched to why your brow is low. If it is muscle pulling it down, the injectable version is the direct answer and it is £150 here. If it is loose eyelid skin, no injectable is the best option and you want a surgeon. If your brow is low because the whole upper face has lost volume, that is a filler conversation and a different page.
There is no single best treatment here. There is the one that suits the face in front of me, which is what the consultation is for.
