Two questions turn up in almost every message I get about legs. Which tier am I in, and what is the whole thing going to cost me. So here are both answers before anything else: at House of Glam HQ, half leg laser is £65 a session and full leg is £85. A course of six is 20% off, which makes half leg £312 and full leg £408.
Legs are the biggest area most people ever laser, and they are usually the one that has been shaved the longest. Everything below is the real price list, how many sessions it actually takes, and the things leg laser will not do for you. Every price is published, where most Portsmouth clinics quote only after a consultation.
How much is laser hair removal on legs?
Legs fall into two of the five area tiers. Half leg sits in the medium tier, full leg in the large tier, and the price is the tier price. It does not change with how much hair you have or how long the appointment runs over.
| Area | One session | Course of six |
|---|---|---|
| Half leg, both legs knee down | £65 | £312 |
| Full leg, both legs in full | £85 | £408 |
Half leg means the lower half, knee down. Full leg is the whole thing. If you are only after the lower leg because that is the bit that shows, half leg is what you want, and the £20 difference a session is not worth paying for skin you keep covered.
Most people book legs with something else, because you are already on the couch and the areas sit together. The laser hair removal packages in Portsmouth price those combinations up, half leg with bikini line and underarms among them. Those combinations have their own price.
| Booked together | One session | Course of six |
|---|---|---|
| Half leg, Hollywood, underarms and top lip | £195 | £936 |
| Half leg, bikini line and underarms | £140 | £672 |
| Brazilian and underarms | £95 | £456 |
| Full body, half legs included | £280 | £1,344 |
Half leg, bikini line and underarms booked separately come to £155. Together they are £140. The full body price of £280 is four areas added together rather than a discount, so it only makes sense if you genuinely want all four.
And the areas people most often add to legs, on their own:
| Area | One session | Course of six |
|---|---|---|
| Bikini line | £45 | £216 |
| Underarms | £45 | £216 |
| Brazilian | £65 | £312 |
| Hollywood | £85 | £408 |
Klarna is available on treatments over three monthly payments, so a full leg course of six is £136 a month for three months rather than £408 in one go.
How many laser sessions do you need for legs?
Six, two to four weeks apart, then a top-up every twelve to eighteen months. That is the same answer I give for every area, and it is not a sales number. Hair grows in cycles and the laser only affects a follicle while the hair in it is actively growing, so one session catches a share of them and the rest need the next pass. Spacing six sessions two to four weeks apart is what catches most of the follicles as they come through.
Legs are slower to regrow than the face, so a lot of people find the gap between sessions stretches naturally towards four weeks rather than two. You will see a real difference by session three. The hair that comes back between appointments comes back finer and patchier, and shaving it takes a fraction of the time it used to.
If your hair growth is hormonal, PCOS included, legs still respond well, but the cause carries on underneath. Maintenance tends to land every eight to twelve weeks after the course rather than once or twice a year.
Can you use laser hair removal on legs?
Yes, and legs are one of the most straightforward areas to treat. The skin is thick, the hair is usually dark, and there is nothing delicate to work around the way there is on the face.
What decides whether it works on you is not the area, it is the hair. The laser targets pigment in the hair, so dark hair on any skin tone takes well. Blonde, red, grey and white hair has little or no pigment for the laser to find, and no machine changes that. If your leg hair is genuinely fair, I will tell you at the patch test rather than take your money for six sessions. There is more on fair hair here.
Deeper skin tones are treated here and the settings are adjusted for them, not the price. The laser is a medical-grade SMARTDiode, an 808nm diode, and it is calibrated to your skin at the patch test.
One thing worth saying plainly: laser hair removal at House of Glam HQ is for women.
Is it worth getting laser hair removal on legs?
It depends entirely on what you are doing now. If you shave your legs twice a week and it costs you ten minutes and a bit of irritation, £312 is a lot of money to make a small annoyance smaller.
Where it tends to be worth it is where shaving has stopped being a ten-minute job. Ingrown hairs that never quite clear. Razor rash along the shin every summer. Hair dark enough that a day’s regrowth shows through tights. Booking a wax three days before a holiday and timing the whole thing around it. Those are the clients who stop thinking about their legs after a course, and that is the thing they say afterwards rather than anything about the hair itself.
The honest version of the sum is this. A course of six on half legs is £312 plus the £15 patch test, spread over four to six months. After that you are looking at a single top-up session now and then rather than a running cost. Whether that beats what you spend on razors, waxing and the time is a sum only you can do, and I would rather you did it before you book than after the third session.
Can I still get strawberry legs after laser hair removal?
You can, and this is the question I would most like people to ask before booking rather than after.
Strawberry legs is a look, not one condition. Sometimes it is dark hair sitting visible inside the follicle, and laser helps that a great deal, because once the hair is gone there is nothing dark to see through the skin. Sometimes it is the follicle itself, open and shadowed, or pigment left in the skin after years of shaving and friction, or keratosis pilaris. Laser does not touch any of those. It removes hair. It does not shrink a pore, lift pigment or smooth bumps.
So if your legs look speckled and the speckles are hair, a course will change that. If they look speckled and the speckles stay once the hair has gone, you were looking at skin texture and pigment, and you will need something that works on skin rather than hair. The laser here is for hair removal only. There is no pigment laser and no IPL at this clinic.
What leg laser hair removal will not do
A full course gives permanent hair reduction, typically 80 to 90 per cent. It is not permanent removal. A laser cannot give you that, and I am not going to tell you otherwise. Some hair comes back, and what comes back is finer, lighter and slower.
It will not treat thread veins or varicose veins, and it will not firm or tighten the skin on your legs. It will not stop hair growth being driven by a hormonal cause, although it will keep reducing what is there. And it will not do anything useful in one session. One £85 full leg session on its own is £85 spent on a partial, temporary result, and I would rather you waited and booked the course.
What happens at a leg appointment in Southsea
Shave the legs the night before or that morning. Not wax, not epilate, not thread, because the laser needs the root in place to work on. Come with clean skin and no moisturiser, oil or fake tan on your legs.
A half leg appointment runs 35 to 45 minutes and a full leg is about 45. You are on the couch in shorts or under a towel, cooling gel goes on ahead of each pass, and the handpiece cools the skin as it works. People describe it as a hot flick rather than a pull. Shins tend to be the easiest part of the body to sit through, which is a relief if legs are your first area. There is a full breakdown of what it feels like area by area here.
Afterwards the skin is pink and warm, roughly like mild sunburn, and soothing gel goes on before you leave. For forty-eight hours keep the legs out of heat and sun. No sauna, no sunbed, no hot bath, and nothing in the gym hot enough to have you sweating into freshly treated skin. Between sessions, shave whenever you need to.
Moles, tattoos and any broken skin get looked at before anything is booked in.
The £15 patch test comes first
Every new client starts with the patch test and consultation. It is one appointment and one charge of £15, not two fees, and it comes off your first treatment. It is where I test a small area of your leg, set the machine to your skin, and tell you honestly whether your hair will respond. Consultations here are never free, and the £15 is deducted.
What the patch test involves is set out in full here.
