Facial laser is the one area where the price people expect and the price they are quoted are furthest apart. Most of the women who ask me about it have already had a number from somewhere else, usually a “from” price with no areas attached to it, and they cannot tell whether it covers the top lip or the whole face.
So here is the whole facial menu with the real figures on it, the arithmetic of booking two areas instead of one, and the parts that are not what you want to hear. I am Natasha. I run House of Glam HQ in Southsea and I carry out every treatment myself.
How much does it cost to remove facial hair with laser?
One facial area is £26 a session, or £125 for a course of six. That covers the top lip on its own, the chin on its own, the cheeks, or the patch between the brows. Full face and neck is £65 a session, £312 for the course.
Everything in between is a combination, and the combinations are priced below what the areas cost separately. Every price is published, where most Portsmouth clinics quote only after a consultation.
| Facial area | Single session | Course of six |
|---|---|---|
| One area, top lip, chin, cheeks or between the brows | £26 | £125 |
| Upper lip and chin together | £45 | £216 |
| Upper lip, chin and cheeks together | £70 | £336 |
| Half face | £45 | £216 |
| Full face and neck | £65 | £312 |
| Neck on its own | £45 | £216 |
| Patch test and consultation, once | £15 | — |
A course of six is 20 per cent off the single-session price. Klarna spreads a course over three monthly payments on treatments, so the upper lip and chin course works out at £72 a month and full face and neck at £104. The £15 patch test comes off your first treatment, so it is not really a seventh line on the bill.
Why two areas booked together cost less than two areas apart
This is the part nobody explains, and it is worth a few minutes before you book.
The top lip and the chin are each a single area at £26. Book them as two separate appointments and you are paying £52 a session, £250 for two courses of six. Book them as one treatment and it is £45 a session, £216 for the course. That is £34 back on a course of six, for the same hair.
Add the cheeks and the gap widens. Three separate areas is £78 a session and £375 over a course. The upper lip, chin and cheeks together is £70 and £336.
And then there is the one I would rather tell you than have you work out afterwards. Full face and neck is £65 a session, £312 for the course. That is a larger area than the three-area combination and it is five pounds less. If you are treating three facial areas or more, book full face and neck. It costs less and it catches the hair along the jaw and down the neck that people usually come back for anyway.
Half face at £45 sits between the two, and it is the right choice if the growth is genuinely on one side or confined to the lower face.
Can facial hair be removed permanently by laser?
Not removed. Reduced, and the difference matters when you are deciding what to spend.
Across a course of six you are looking at permanent hair reduction, typically 80 to 90 per cent. The hair that grows through afterwards is finer, lighter and slower, and for most people that turns a daily job into something they think about every few months. What it does not do is clear a face of every hair for good, and any clinic telling you otherwise is selling you something.
The laser reads the pigment in a hair and heats the follicle it is attached to, and it can only do that while that hair is in its growing phase. That is why the course is six sessions spread two to four weeks apart rather than one long appointment. You are waiting for each batch of follicles to come into growth.
Is laser hair removal good for your face?
For coarse dark facial hair that keeps coming back, it is the treatment that reduces how much hair there is rather than removing what is there today. That is its whole advantage over shaving, waxing and threading, all of which leave the follicle intact.
Facial skin is more sensitive than a leg and the hair sits deeper, so the settings are lower and the sessions are shorter. The chin and the jaw respond slowest on almost everyone, which is worth knowing before session three, when people start wondering whether it is working.
The laser here is a medical-grade SMARTDiode, an 808nm diode, and it is set to your skin type at the patch test rather than run on a standard protocol. If you have been turned away elsewhere because of your skin tone, usually after IPL, my guide to laser hair removal on darker skin covers why that answer is often wrong.
What it will not do
It will not work on grey, white or very pale blonde hair. There is no pigment for the laser to read. If that is what your facial hair looks like I will say so at the patch test rather than take money for a course.
It will not treat the reason hormonal hair is there. If the growth along your chin and jaw is hormonal, the laser handles the hair and your hormones carry on as they were, so maintenance is part of the plan rather than a sign something went wrong. I have written that out properly in my guide to laser hair removal for PCOS.
It will not finish individual stubborn hairs the way electrolysis can, and electrolysis is not something I offer here.
It will not work around a wax. No waxing, plucking or epilating for four weeks before a session, because the laser needs the root in place. Shaving is fine, and shaving the night before is what I ask for.
Who is not a good candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal at House of Glam HQ is for women. Beyond that, the honest list is short.
Anyone pregnant or who might be. There is no human safety data for this group, so I do not treat it as a grey area and I ask at every appointment.
Anyone whose facial hair has no pigment in it, as above. Anyone with a recent tan or fake tan on the area, which changes the settings and needs to fade first. And anyone taking a medication that makes skin more sensitive to light, which is why I ask what you take before I set the machine rather than after.
If you are on that list, I would rather tell you at a £15 appointment than at the end of a £312 course.
How many sessions, and what a year actually costs
Six sessions, two to four weeks apart, is the course. On the face I would expect the chin and jaw to need all six before the result reads properly, and some people want more than six there.
After that, ordinary facial hair needs a top-up every 12 to 18 months, which on one area is £26. Hormonal growth is a different rhythm and wants a maintenance session every eight to twelve weeks.
So the first year on an upper lip and chin looks like £216 for the course, plus the £15 patch test that comes off your first session, and then a single £45 session somewhere in the following year if the growth is ordinary. It is more than a wax and it is not a subscription. You pay per session or per course, never on a contract. There is more on the timing in my guide to how many laser sessions you actually need.
The £15 patch test, and what you get told in it
Everyone starts with the same appointment. It is £15 and about fifteen minutes, and it is one appointment and one charge rather than a consultation fee and a patch test fee on top. The £15 is deducted from your first treatment.
In it I look at your skin type, your hair colour and what you have been doing to the area so far, set the machine for you and test a small patch. It is also where you get the straight answer. If one area is worth treating and another is not, I will say that, and I would rather lose the course than take your money for a result I do not think you will get. There is more detail in my guide to the laser patch test.
Booking facial laser in Southsea
If the face is only part of what you want treated, the full body laser hair removal cost page sets out the four areas in a £280 appointment and what each extra area adds. House of Glam HQ is at 1A Auckland Road East, Southsea, Portsmouth, PO5 2HA, with free street parking nearby. I carry out every treatment myself, so the person who sets the laser at your patch test is the person you see at every session after it.
Start with the £15 patch test and consultation. You can book the patch test on Fresha, message me on WhatsApp at wa.me/447831846273, or call 07831 846273 and ask me anything on this page first.
Every area on the menu is priced the same way, with a booking link on every row, on the laser hair removal page. If it is one area you are weighing up, my guides to upper lip laser and facial hair removal for women go through the same ground area by area, and the full course price breakdown covers the body areas as well.
