What Is Profhilo Treatment: How It Works

When exploring Profhilo treatment, a central question arises: is this going to help your skin, or is it another injectable people talk about without properly explaining?

I get that question a lot in clinic. And Profhilo is one of the most misunderstood treatments I offer. People often come in thinking it’s a filler, or that it works like anti-wrinkle injections, or that it’ll somehow “lift” the face in the same way as something more structural. It won’t. That’s exactly why it’s worth understanding properly before you book anything.

I’m Natasha, and I’ve been working in aesthetics for over 7 years. I treat every client myself, one to one. So this is the straight answer I give in clinic, in plain English, without overselling it.

An Honest Introduction to Profhilo

Profhilo is for skin quality. That’s the simplest way to put it.

If your skin looks tired, crepey, a bit loose, or less firm than it used to, Profhilo can be a very good option. If you want bigger lips, more cheek volume, a sharper jawline, or deeper lines filling out, it isn’t the right treatment. I think that’s where a lot of confusion starts. People hear “injectable” and assume all injectables do roughly the same thing. They don’t.

What I like about Profhilo is that the aim is subtle. You should still look like yourself. Usually just fresher, more hydrated, and firmer-looking over time. That makes it a good fit for people who want improvement without looking obviously “done”.

Profhilo makes most sense when the goal is better skin, not a different face.

It uses hyaluronic acid, which is the same substance your skin naturally contains. If you want a clearer background on why hyaluronic acid matters in skincare and injectables, I’ve explained that in more detail in this guide to the benefits of hyaluronic acid for facial skin.

Why people get mixed up

The main problem is that Profhilo sits in its own category. UK clinical literature describes it as a hybrid hyaluronic acid injectable used for bio-remodelling rather than volumising, with use on the face and body for skin laxity, especially in the malar-zygomatic and submalar areas according to this UK clinical review of Profhilo.

That wording matters. Bio-remodelling means the treatment is there to improve how the skin behaves and looks. It isn’t there to build shape.

What Profhilo Is and How It Actually Works

Profhilo is a bio-remodelling injectable made with hyaluronic acid. But it doesn’t behave like filler.

When I explain it in clinic, I keep it simple. Profhilo spreads through the skin rather than sitting in one place to create shape. So instead of building out a cheek or defining a lip border, it diffuses across the area and works on overall skin quality.

What it’s doing under the skin

There are really two parts to it.

  • Hydration first, because hyaluronic acid attracts water into the skin
  • Stimulation after that, because it encourages fibroblast cells to produce more collagen and elastin over the following weeks

That’s why people often notice that the result doesn’t look fake or obvious. The goal is skin that looks healthier and better supported, not skin that looks filled.

What Profhilo is not

This is the bit I always make very clear.

Profhilo is not a dermal filler. It doesn’t add volume where volume is missing. It doesn’t sculpt features. And it doesn’t replace dermal fillers for structure and contour.

It also isn’t the same as anti-wrinkle injections (commonly known as Botox, the brand name for botulinum toxin). Those work on muscle movement. Profhilo doesn’t freeze muscles.

If you want hydration and firmness, Profhilo can help. If you want shape or lift from added structure, you need a different plan.

Independent UK beauty coverage describes Profhilo as a hydrator and biostimulator that improves hydration and firmness but can’t add volume to specific areas or erase deeper lines, with effects becoming clearer at around the 6 to 8 week stage as collagen and elastin stimulation gets going, as outlined in this UK explainer on Profhilo.

So if someone asks me what Profhilo treatment is, the honest answer is this: it’s an injectable for better skin quality, not reshaping.

The Profhilo Treatment Process and Results Timeline

A client will often sit down and say, “I’ve got a wedding in ten days. Will this sort my skin out?” My honest answer is no. Profhilo is a treatment for skin quality that develops in stages, so timing matters.

A dermatologist discusses a skin treatment plan with a patient using a tablet in a clinic.

What the treatment course usually looks like

In clinic, I usually recommend Profhilo as a course of two sessions, spaced about four weeks apart. The appointment itself is relatively quick, and the full plan matters more than any single session. One treatment can give some improvement, but the better result usually comes from completing the course and then reviewing whether maintenance is worth doing later.

If you want to see my current skin booster treatment options and booking information, that is the best place to check.

This is one of the main trade-offs with Profhilo. It is straightforward to fit into a diary, but it asks for patience. If someone wants one appointment and a fast transformation, I would rather say that upfront than let them expect the wrong thing.

What the appointment feels like

The treatment itself is simple. I assess the skin, confirm suitability, clean the area, and place the product at specific injection points. I do not share a step-by-step injection technique online, because that belongs in proper medical training, but from the client side it is usually very manageable and over quite quickly.

It is described as short-lived discomfort rather than a difficult treatment.

What matters more is what happens after. You may have small injection bumps for a little while, and you should not expect your final result when you leave the clinic. Profhilo works gradually. Skin often feels a bit better before it looks noticeably fresher or firmer.

A realistic timeline

This is the timeline I talk through in consultation:

  1. First appointment
The product is injected and starts drawing water into the skin.

  2. The next few weeks
Hydration improves first. Then the slower part begins, with collagen and elastin stimulation building in the background.

  3. Second appointment
This supports the response from the first session and usually gives a more worthwhile result than stopping after one.

  4. The following weeks
The visible change tends to appear gradually. Skin can look smoother, fresher, and a little firmer, but not overnight and not in a dramatic, filler-like way.

I tell clients to judge Profhilo over weeks, not days. It suits someone who wants a subtle improvement in skin quality and is happy for that change to build steadily. If the goal is instant contour or a stronger lift for a near-term event, I would choose a different treatment plan.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Profhilo?

The right person for Profhilo usually isn’t asking for “more”. They’re asking why their skin looks less fresh than it used to.

When it tends to suit

Profhilo is usually a strong option for someone with:

  • Early skin laxity, especially when the skin looks less firm
  • Crepey texture, often on the face or neck
  • Tired-looking skin, where the issue is quality rather than shape
  • A preference for subtle results, without obvious change
  • A wish to avoid filler, because they don’t want added volume

I find it especially useful for the face and neck when someone wants that firmer, better-supported look without changing their features.

When I would say no

It’s important to be honest: Profhilo is not the answer for everything.

I wouldn’t recommend it as the main treatment if your goal is:

  • More cheek volume
  • Lip enhancement
  • Filling deeper static lines
  • A stronger jawline
  • A dramatic change

If that’s the brief, another treatment would suit you better, or you may need a combination approach. And sometimes the right answer is waiting, or doing nothing that day.

The best Profhilo candidates usually want to look more rested. They don’t want to look altered.

There’s also a newer product called Profhilo Structura, which exacerbates online confusion. Professional guidance now separates standard Profhilo from Structura, with Structura aimed at subcutaneous fat restoration in the face rather than surface-level skin quality. It’s used for age-related sinking and sagging in a different way, with a different maintenance pattern, as described in this professional overview of Profhilo Structura.

So if you’re researching Profhilo, make sure you’re reading about the right version.

Profhilo vs Other Skin Boosters I Offer

Profhilo isn’t the only injectable option for skin quality, and I don’t treat it like the automatic answer just because it’s the name people recognise first.

Profhilo and Seventy Hyal 2000

I offer both because they do different jobs.

Treatment Best suited to Price
Profhilo Bio-remodelling, firmness, elasticity, skin that looks looser or more crepey £185 per session
Seventy Hyal 2000 Deep hydration, glow, dull or dehydrated skin £165 per session

Both are skin boosters. But they aren’t interchangeable.

Profhilo is the one I think about when the main issue is firmness and overall skin quality. Seventy Hyal 2000 is the one I think about when the skin is crying out for hydration and glow. One isn’t “better”. The right choice depends on what your skin needs.

You can read more about the different options in my guide to choosing the best skin booster injections.

Where polynucleotides fit

Polynucleotides sit in a different lane again. I tend to discuss them when the skin needs regenerative support and the treatment plan needs a different approach from hyaluronic-acid-based boosters.

If you’re comparing options, my polynucleotides treatment page explains where they may fit better than a standard booster.

How I decide what to recommend

I don’t default to the better-known product. I look at the skin in front of me.

Sometimes Profhilo is the right call. Sometimes Seventy Hyal makes more sense. Sometimes a combination works better over time. And sometimes I tell someone that neither is the best next step.

A good consultation should narrow things down, not confuse you more.
